I think we gotta start thinking about classic rock the way we think about classical music. It pains me to hear Geddy Lee try to sing nowadays. Queen and Journey had the right idea. Get a young guy who can actually sing the way the songs were intended to be sung.
Unless you're the Doobie Brothers, and you can still sing all of you own original songs in their original keys, there should probably be a stopping point on not being able to sing the songs. I can't stand hearing classic rock songs I've known all my life, being changed to lower keys to appease the lead singer. Musicianship and technical proficiency are almost always better over the years. If need be, I agree - get someone who can sing the parts. Kip Winger seems to be one of the very few left, who can still sing all of his original parts, and quite well.
