I started teaching guitar lessons at a music store here in Orlando, in 1996. Back then, very few people were on the internet or even owned a home computer. Almost nobody carried a cell phone - and social media as we know it today, was unimaginable, and it simply didn’t exist.
These revolutions changed the world in just a matter of a few years. I watched it all unfold as those years progressed. I watched the decline of the art of music, as digital technology quickly took over. I have watched the decline of interest in learning how to play the guitar (or any instrument), become the reasons I, along with so many other musicians and teachers, have struggle for so many years.
I have said for many years that if I knew what the answer was, I would have found it by now. We have long since passed the point of no return. There simply is no way to go back to the way things used to be in the music world. We can’t even get close to the way things used to be.
My generation is well aware of the problem. What we don’t know is how to fix it.
