Beginner Lesson

Hey look! Another FREE Guitar Lesson!

This lesson takes a look at using the four chords along with a capo (or as open chords), to give you all kinds of options when learning how to play your guitar better; and for new ideas in writing your songs.

The “Four Chords”.

Many years ago, as I was trying to teach some of my beginner students how to play some of the most basic open-string chords, and do so in rhythm, I came across an idea to use four of the most popular chords in today’s pop, rock, folk and country music.

Since then, this method of playing these four chords, has significantly improved the way my students practice changing their chords.

Using a “capo” is something that many purist frown upon, but I use a capo all of the time. I highly recommend that you get one too.

The following is a list of the chords I play in the video, in the “linear order format” (strings 6 5 4 3 2 1) The numbers that correspond with the chords below, represent the frets where you will place your finger, and in the order from string 6 to string 1. "x" means you do not play that string. "0" means that it is an open string note).

The chords used in this video are:

G - 3 2 0 0 3 3

Cadd9 - x 3 2 0 3 3

Em7 - 0 2 2 0 3 3

Dsus - x x 0 2 3 3

I am open to new ideas and requests for video lessons (paid subscribers only). Thank-you again for taking the time to watch my videos. I hope you enjoy your private video guitar lessons.

See you next time. ~ Dave
