“Play Deep" was released on November 12, 1985. This album brings back so many memories for me. Back in the mid 1980's, "Play Deep" was one of the most listened to albums in my circle of friends. Although the song, "Your love" was one of their biggest hits, every song on this album is good. It is very much an 80's pop-rock album, but it still sounds good today. "Say it isn't so" starts off the album with a signature guitar lick, outlined by the "canon snare" to motivate you to start moving to the jello-neck, head-bob dance, followed with the mastering of the air guitar.
The Outfield were especially known for their perfect blending of high vocals. You can hear examples of this on several tracks like, "I don't need her", 61 seconds" and "Taking my chances".
"Play Deep" was one of the first albums to step away from the overwhelming wash of pop 80's keyboards and synthesizers. The focus was more on the guitars and the vocal harmonies. "Every time you cry" was really the only slower ballad …
