I have been using "Power Tab Editor" for about twenty years. It is a fantastic editing program for tabbing-out music for guitar and bass guitar. I along with four of my present students are working on learning how to play the melody notes along with the chords to this song. I had two different notation versions of this song, but I opted to simplify so that it would be easier for everyone to learn.
With a song like "Misty", just about everyone knows the lyrics, or at least the melody. The chords are a little advanced, but they can be played with lots of practice.
My advice is to learn the chords first. Once you have a good grasp on being able to change the chords clearly in rhythm from the top of the song to the bottom, you can begin to add the melody notes for each measure. Again, this is how I approached it, and I'm doing the same with my students.
"Misty" is a forgiving song that allows anyone to interpret their version of it. You can't really screw up this song. It helps that it's a slow ballad.
Power Tab Editor has always been free. It's a small twenty-year-old downloadable software program that is relatively easy to use. There is a learning curve, so you'll have to spend some time on it. The nice thing about Power Tab Editor is that - not only can you tab songs, create songs and learn how to read and play notes and chords - you can also listen to to the music as it plays the score through your computer midi files.
Here is where you can download the software.
~ Misty ~
Spend some time getting familiar with the chords before you attempt the melody. Enjoy!
Thanks Dave! Looking forward to continuing to work on this song.
