In an effort to better learn the future of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), I am trying to keep my proverbial ear to the ground on the new technology as it is being made available for public use.
Ever dubious, I try very hard to keep an open mind to knew things. At my age, this can sometimes be an exercise in futility. The only exception in this case, is my interest in the latest technology that could possible make my life easier for all of us. The jury is still out. I do however, want to embrace the possibilities of A.I. technology, as I believe that it will inevitable become a revolutionary part of the human condition.
There was a time about 25-30 years ago when almost nobody owned a cellular phone. Now, we cannot imagine a world without it. There was also a time when computer communication existed only in emails and the only texting that was used was done through instant messaging. Now, emailing is rarely used by the masses; and instant messaging has all but completely disappeared - all this in the wake of the social media revolution.
"We actually use the same part of our brain to imagine the future as we do to remember the past." ~ Bettina Warburg
It is difficult for most to accept change, especially in large quantities. I have never really been one of those people, when it came to the latest, greatest new thing. I owned my first cell phone way back in 1995. Nobody carried cell phones back then. Some carried pagers. The idea of anyone needing a pocket telephone to take with you where ever you go, seemed completely unnecessary and a waste of money.
I remember when I didn’t quite understand the need for a home computer. That was about thirty-five years ago. It wasn’t until I got my first computer in 1999, that I almost immediately understood the importance of having a home computer.
The computer and the cell phone were what you might call, “The first revolution to change the world forever”. The second was the advent of social media. We simply cannot live without either of these technologies in our lives. Our world is vastly different from the world we knew prior to the events of September 11, 2001. Do you remember how there was a sudden mad rush to buy a cell phone for every person in your family, after 9/11 - just in case of the next attacks? It took a global catastrophe to change the minds of the masses into buying cell phones.
I believe the next revolution will be a combination of three things: Blockchain technology, Crypto Currencies and Artificial Intelligence. This is the future I see. Imagine a day when the idea of cell phones, social media, fiat currency and the internet, will all be considered obsolete concepts.
In preparation for the future, I want to know what A.I. is capable of doing to change our lives. So far, everything I’ve seen and heard so far is mind-blowing!
I went to this website last night and tried the free text-to-speech application. I highly recommend that you take a look too. It is absolutely amazing!
It is called ElevenLabs.
I remember installing the Dragon Naturally Speaking software on an old computer about 15 years ago, and I was amazed by that technology then. That’s nothing compared to this new A.I. stuff.
I am considering incorporating A.I. audio clips into my articles here on SoundHole. Stay tuned!
