In the following exercise, we go outside of the basic pentatonic block patterns.
The first part of this exercise will incorporate eighth-note triplets played as “triangles”. I use the term triangles to describe the pattern of each triplet as the shape of a triangle on the fretboard.
The second part adds the “leading notes” to each triangle, as chromatic or “half-step” passing tones. This is used to help add more interesting passages to your phrasing.
Make sure that you practice this exercise with your metronome set at 60-90bpm.
