Hard to believe it’s been 40 years since I recorded this cassette tape from the radio. This clip goes out to all of my Southeastern Wisconsin friends who grew up listening to all of the rock stations that used to exist in Milwaukee, including 93QFM.
I was a fervent fan of 93QFM. I was in my late teens, early twenties when I started working full time, while still living under my parents’ roof. I made lots of money at my job, which afforded me the very expensive hobby-passion/investment of building my huge stereo sound system. I was also heavily into building my vinyl record and cassette tape collections.
In 1983, I was 20 years old. I worked the night shift at a well-known local bakery in Racine. I was usually home by mid to late morning, which meant I had the rest of the day to myself. I spent hours listening to my stereo. I recorded stuff off the radio in case I heard new music that I liked and wanted to go out and get the albums.
Back in those days, radio personalities were like, celebrities. I listened to “Rodio and Abdul” do their “Morning sickness”, show that included their version of the WLS, John Records Landecker’s - “Boogie Check”, called “The Buffoon Line”.
93QFM was such a great rock station. A couple years later, a brand new competition rock station in Milwaukee gave QFM a serious run for its money. That’s when I became a loyal fan of Lazer 103. Radio was very different back then. Calling in to the radio station was something everyone did. I miss those days.
Hope you enjoy this audio clip and it brings back some fond memories.
